Curriculum Vitae

Wilhelm Hüttl attended the commercial academy in Linz, from which he graduated in 1932. In 1930, he joined the Welfia Linz secondary school fraternity. He then moved to Graz to study medicine as an external student. In 1932 he became a member of the Carolina student fraternity. In 1933, he completed his high school diploma and was now able to continue his studies as a regular student. He subsequently became a functionary of the VF.

After the Anschluss, Wilhelm Hüttl had to endure house searches and was summoned and interrogated by the Gestapo several times. In February 1939, he graduated as a doctor of medicine, but was unable to obtain a training position. On repeated visits to the Medical Association, he was turned away with the derisive words: "Yes, Mr. Colleague, if you hadn't been with the CV". He manages to get by as a practice substitute and is drafted into the German army in March 1940. In 1942/43, he worked as a medical examiner in Graz. He succeeds in preventing the conscription and deployment to the front of Cartell brothers and other Catholics by means of appropriate certificates. At the instigation of a colleague employed by the head of medical services in Graz, he is transferred to the Eastern Front in Russia. During a vacation in Poland, he is taken by the Gestapo to a cellar where there are around twenty Poles who have been killed and for whom he is supposed to issue "disguised" death certificates. Under the pretext of fetching the necessary forms, he leaves and flees to the front. In 1944, he is transferred to the military hospital in Wels, where Dr. Rupert Hartinger subjects him to a fictitious operation due to a stomach rupture caused by mixed-up X-rays and discharges him from the army.
