Curriculum Vitae

Hildegard von Ballusek, known as 'Hilde', was born in Ölmütz in Moravia [today: Olomouc in the Czech Republic] as the legitimate daughter of the industrialist and landowner Karl von Ballusek. After elementary school, she moved to Vienna to live with her grandmother and aunt, where she attended grammar school and graduated. In 1917, she married the dragoon officer and cavalry captain Kurt von Longardt. After her wedding, she spent her summers at the estate near Olmütz and her winters in Vienna.

After the defeat of Austria-Hungary, the break-up of the dual monarchy and the expulsion of the House of Habsburg, she took Austrian citizenship but continued to spend her summers in Olmütz.
