After the Anschluss on 13 March 1938, Walter Kickinger was dismissed as head of the chancellery in the House of Federal Legislation in accordance with § 4 of the Ordinance on the Reorganization of the Austrian Civil Service. Without giving further details, he reports in his personal status sheet that he was "briefly in police protective custody" in Vienna.
