Curriculum Vitae

After graduating from high school in Bregenz, Alfons Simma first studied geography, German and gymnastics in Graz and joined the Traungau Graz student fraternity in 1932, before moving to Vienna. In 1936, he was the standard bearer for the Austrian student delegation at the Summer Olympics in Berlin. In 1938, he passed his teaching exam (Mag. phil.).

After the Anschluss, he was arrested for anti-Nazi statements, placed under Gestapo surveillance and called up to the German Wehrmacht in 1942.
