During the First World War, he performs military service, first in Vienna and then in Moravian Ostrava (ultimately as a first lieutenant auditor). In 1916 he was appointed judge. From 1920 to 1938, he worked as a judge and head of court in Grein.
After the Anschluss, he was first taken into "protective custody" and then from August 2, 1938 to September 3, 1938 into pre-trial detention (Gestapo Linz). He was interrogated by the Gestapo on March 18, August 2 and August 29, 1938 and released in August through forced retirement with a reduced pension. After his release, he moved to Maria-Anzbach. In October 1944, he was able to avoid being called up for military service by lodging a complaint with the Gauleiter.
