Curriculum Vitae

Leo Müller completed secondary school and then began studying agriculture at the Vienna University of Applied Sciences (Dipl.-Ing. 1923; Dr. 1924), where he joined the Amelungia student fraternity. After completing his studies, he joined the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture in 1924, which was in the process of being established, and was employed by the district chambers of agriculture in Schwechat and St. Pölten. In May 1927, he was appointed to the Chamber's head office and assigned to the plant cultivation department, which he soon took over. Due to his practical knowledge of animal breeding, he was appointed head of the animal breeding department in 1934.

After the Anschluss in March 1938, Müller was removed from his post and forced into retirement with reduced pay. He was then able to work as an estate manager. He remained in this profession for some time after the war and helped to rebuild an estate that had suffered greatly as a result of the war.

In June 1945, Leo Müller was entrusted with the management of the Chamber Office of the re-established Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture, which was also responsible for Vienna, the largest such chamber in Austria, and was subsequently appointed Chamber Office Director. In this function, he paid particular attention to the reconstruction of agriculture, the rural cooperative system and the district chambers of agriculture. With the help of the chamber organization, he succeeded in bringing agricultural production in Lower Austria back to pre-war levels, thereby helping to stabilize the food situation in the Vienna area.

In February 1956, Leo Müller was appointed Chairman of the Livestock Transport Fund by the Ministry of Agriculture. He also played a key role in the negotiations on the establishment of the agricultural and forestry social insurance institution, the agricultural supplementary pension insurance institution and, towards the end of his term of office, the establishment of a farmers' health insurance fund. He retired at the end of 1966.

Müller was also involved in his Amelungia association. At the end of 1945, for example, he found a subtenant for them in the Bankgasse, whose main tenant was the Chamber of Agriculture. He also provided the Franco-Bavaria with a booth in Bankgasse, for which he became their band philistine. From 1947 to 1950, he was Senior Philistine of the Amelungia and thus made a significant contribution to its reconstruction after the war. He was not able to enjoy his retirement for long and died before reaching the age of 70. He was buried in the Vienna-Ottakring cemetery (16/10/12).
