Curriculum Vitae

Helmut Gnambs comes from Vienna-Alsergrund and is active in the Catholic-German Student Association (KDSB), the secondary school organization of the Reich League of Catholic Youth in Austria, at grammar school. After graduating from high school in 1936, he began studying economics at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Vienna (Dipl.-Vw., Dr. rer. pol.), where he joined the student fraternity Rudolfina. During this time, he is also active in the Student Free Corps of the Austrian Young People and is ready to defend Austria's freedom on 11 March 1938.

After the Anschluss, he is active in the resistance group Gruppe Eisen, which is already smashed in June 1938. However, Helmut Gnambs was not charged and was drafted into the Wehrmacht after the outbreak of war.

After his military service in the German Wehrmacht, Helmut Gnambs returned to Vienna, continued his studies and then joined the Agricultural and Forestry Social Insurance Institution in Vienna, later known as the Farmers' Pension Insurance Institution, where he remained until his retirement. He dies after a long period of suffering and is buried in the cemetery in Vienna-Mauer.
