Curriculum Vitae
Albert Markovics began studying at the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Vienna after graduating from high school in 1930 (abs. iur. 1934; Dr. iur. 1935). After completing his studies, he joined the Vienna City Council in 1934 and was transferred to permanent retirement for political reasons after the Anschluss on March 19, 1938. He then worked in the private sector and was later drafted into the German Wehrmacht.
After the war, Albert Markovics was rehabilitated as a civil servant of the City of Vienna and was subsequently appointed to conduct the first elections on November 25, 1945 (the so-called "Kathreins election") in the then still existing Greater Vienna, which was held without any problems thanks to him. At the beginning of 1947, he was appointed to Department 2 NS in the Federal Chancellery and shortly afterwards was entrusted with its management. This department was responsible for the implementation of the so-called Prohibition Act, i.e. the removal of persons in the civil service who had been tainted by National Socialism.
After completing these tasks, Albert Markovics was appointed Head of the Department for Civil Service Matters in the Personnel Section of the Federal Chancellery in 1955. In 1970, he was appointed Head of Section and Head of the Personnel Section (Section II) of the Federal Chancellery. He retired at the end of 1976.
