Welcome to the memorial portal gedenkort.at!

369 weeks, Austria ceased to exist. After the invasion of the German Wehrmacht on the night of March 11, 1938 to March 12, 1938, many Austrians were persecuted or actively resisted National Socialism. Persecution by the new rulers could range from simple dismissal at work to imprisonment in a concentration camp or murder.
Resistance to this inhumane system ranged from loosely organized groups to groups with a very high degree of organization. Gedenkort.at is a portal that serves as a symbol of remembrance for the countless victims and resistance fighters.
Short biographies of other victims and resistance fighters are constantly being added to this portal and its sub-portals. All life stories published on this portal are backed up with sources and are verifiable.
Freedom, democracy and humanity cannot be taken for granted and must be defended and protected anew every day. The life stories of the many people we commemorate on this site should serve as a model and lesson for us.
“369” commemorates the 369 weeks of Nazi rule in Austria, during which political concentration camp inmates were marked with a red triangle. The “Ö” stands for the unbending belief in a free and independent Austria.
